Unique Decorating Idea with Mums
Chrysanthemums usher in an appreciation of cooler weather, frosty mornings and cozy sweaters. With grace, they invite us to bid farewell to summer. At this time of year, we delight in oven-baked bread, thick, hearty stew and hot mulled cider—perhaps with a spot of spiced rum. You can dress your dinner party by beautifying each place setting with mums in two quick steps.Â
- Cut three or so stems of mums about 4” long. Use a single color if you need a unifying element to the table, and use complementary or contrasting colors of flowers if you desire a little change in the color palette.
- Tie flowers together—choose ribbon or twine to reflect the atmosphere of the event. A generous satin bow would be lovely for a formal dinner, while a more casual meal would do well with knotted twine. Place mini bouquets on each plate as a warm welcome to your guests.
Mums will be okay out water for the duration of the meal, but you can encourage guests to take home their little arrangement if they have a teeny vase. While flowers are typically used for centerpieces, use an assortment of candles instead this time. It will add to the cozy celebration of the changing seasons.
